Voyages from Masan in South Korea cross the world's largest ocean basin, where route optimisation and weather routing have significant financial implications — a single transpacific crossing can consume hundreds of tonnes of fuel, and a one-knot speed variation over a 12-day voyage materially affects both cost and schedule.
